The Top 5 Horror Movies Concerning Connecticut

SPOILER: The Haunting in Connecticut didn't make the list
Connecticut is a scary place. I should know since I grew up here. Massachussetts steals a lot of the thunder what with Salem and all those witches, but there are a bunch of spooky stories and places in CT that have inspired or hosted some great horror movies. Read on for my list of the Top 5 horror movies that are associated with the Constitution State!

 5. The Innkeepers

No vacancy.
This entertaining tale of two ghost-obsessed youngsters working at a haunted old New England Inn was filmed on location in Torrington, CT. at the Yankee Peddler Inn. Directed by Ti West it stars Sara Paxton and Pat Healy as well as Top Gun alum Kelly McGillis.

4. The House of The Devil

1980's fashion...OF THE DAMNED
This is one of my current personal favorites. Another Ti West vehicle, The House of The Devil does an amazing job of capturing the slow boiling tension of creepy 1970's horror movies, while doing a believable job of appearing to be an Eighties period piece. This Satanic yarn was filmed in CT at Central Connecticut State University and stars state native Jocelin Donahue (Insidious: Chapter 2, The Burrowers).

3. The Conjuring

Is something on my face?
An excellent terror tale from director James Wan, The Conjuring tells the story of the demonically oppressed Perron family in Rhode Island. The movie's protagonists are Ed and Lorraine Warren, the noted paranormal investigators who lived in Monroe, Connecticut.

2. The Last House on The Left

No good kids.
Absolutely infamous, and the archetype for countless modern "gore porn" and "revenge" flicks, Wes Craven's The Last House on The Left is still disturbing over 40 years after it was originally released. This gem of extreme cinema was filmed on location in beautiful Westport, CT.

1. Friday the 13th

Always use the buddy system
Here's our winner! A blueprint for so many slasher films, Friday the 13th took place in the fictional Connecticut "Camp Crystal Lake". Interestingly enough, Crystal Lake actually exists in Ellington, CT. but the camp near it doesn't bear the same name. Probably for the best. Another fun fact: Friday the 13th Part 2 (the first installment to feature Jason Voorhees) actually was filmed in the Nutmeg state, in the town of New Preston.
